LH Lufthansa Boarding Pass

Lufthansa, an airline born in a country where logistics weigh a great importance, becomes the largest European airline and is also the founding member of Star Alliance. With one of the oldest running airline in the world, what I like the most is the logo that they have been kept using since creation. A sense of heritage.

With a signature traditional German gold added on sides of boarding passes, there’s no way to be confused with other airlines. Very German! The selling class is printed by dots or lines at the top right corner of larger portions. They still print baggage details on the boarding pass as in old paper ticket. However, since most EU airlines adopt piece system, they now only show the pieces that passengers have checked in on the bottom right corner without weight and other information.

There are two boarding pass designs. The only difference is the background photo changed from man to woman! And it is alternating when printing boarding passes to customers. For the woman version, please visit here. I only got one here. Lufthansa adopts the same design across all airports.

KE Korean Air 대한항공 Boarding Pass

Korean Air, the largest airline in South Korea (or practically the largest on the Korean Peninsula), founded in 1962. It earns plenty of titles through years. It is the founding member and the first SkyTeam member in Asia; It’s no.1 airline in cargo services in terms of ton-km; It has the most presence in Americas by Asia airline; And the largest airline in South Korea (And practically the largest in The Korean Peninsula).

Through its logo and design of the boarding pass, you can feel the huge tradition and influence from its country, South Korea. The logo is consisted of a Taegeuk symbol representing South Korea. Words use edged font which is common there.

I found a common practice that Korean airliners print customers’ mileage on its small portion of boarding passes, including how many miles and how many times did they travel. It’s also a pretty considerate feature that it tells you whether it’s a window or aisle seat under the seat number. (However it would be a trouble for check in agent when checking in a busy flight :P )

There are a set of two boarding passes, one for economy in lighter blue and one for first/prestige class in darker blue color. At the back they place ads and it’s promoting their own line of hotels and mileage redeemable offers (which is pretty clever I think!) at the time.

Korean Air adopt the same design across all airports.

KA Dragonair 港龍航空 Boarding Pass

Dragonair is a mid-sized airline based in Hong Kong International Airport. With good reception for traveling to China, it also flies to 12 other countries, all short haul routes around Asia. After acquisition by Cathay Pacfic, a founding member of Oneworld Alliance, Dragonair became an affiliated member and share the same frequent flyer program – Asia Miles and Marco Polo club.

The design is plain, boring I would say. The only thing I like is the lively dragon logo, which… it has to be there, right? All information are absent from a blank boarding pass. The class of travel is printed at the top left corner. Besides boarding pass, excess baggage charge receipt, lounge invitation card and flight interruption manifest are also printed on this card when necessary. They adopt the same design worldwide.

Since Dragonair became a fully owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacfic, the two share a similar boarding pass design.

Despite its frequent flight delay and cancellations lately, Hong Kong Airlines is a fast expanding airline based in Hong Kong after Hainan Airlines’ takeover in 2006. It has a main focus in China and has expanding international routes now reaching 9 countries including cargo services.

Hong Kong Airlines has not entered any global airline alliance but it runs the Fortune Wings Club as their loyalty program from their parent Hainan Airlines.

EK Emirates هواپیمایی امارات Boarding Pass

Emirates, a large-sized airline based in Dubai International Airport and is a wholly owned company by the government of Dubai. With oil keep pumping endlessly under their feet, they have probably the best in-flight service in terms of their well-trained staff, young fleet and owns the most A380!

Emirates haven’t joined any airline alliance yet and operate their own Skywards loyalty program.

The boarding pass design changed from class-specific to a common one. With just a logo on both large and small portion of it, it’s simple and clean with the information printed on it. While some airports have a unique lounge invitation card, some will just print ‘LOUNGE INVITATION – THE EMIRATES LOUNGE NR GATE XX’ underneath gate and seat information, which is pretty smart I think.

The design is adopted worldwide.

(Update: Recently Emirates announce a proposed partnership with Qantas to form an alliance while it’s subject to regulatory approval. Visit www.qantasandemirates.com for more info)

CZ China Southern 中國南方航空 Boarding Pass

China Southern Airlines is the largest airline in Asia in terms of fleet size and passengers carried. Over 120 destinations are served with its hubs in Bejing Capital and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. They have a great expansion since their short establishment in 1988 and became one of China’s Big Three’ Airlines. The logo consists of a red kapok inside a blue tail fin while many Chinese can’t figure out. Through China air industry restructuring, China Southern isn’t only being focused or advantaged in southern area.

China Southern becomes a full member of SkyTeam Alliance and is the first China airline to join an global airline alliance.

Most China airlines adopt the TravelSky check in system so layouts are identical among them at the same airport. However, boarding passes design and size vary significantly from airports to airports since China airports usually ‘forces’ airlines to use their own with the airport logo and name on it (for profits of course). This design is used in Hong Kong International Airport. There are two types of boarding passes, the green one is for Economy, Premium Economy, while the red one is issued to First and Business class customers

CI China Airlines 中華航空 Boarding Pass

China Airlines, the largest airline in Taiwan and the flag carrier of Republic of China. (Not to be confused with Air China in People’s Republic of China) China Airlines is a young member in the SkyTeam since 2011 and they are based at Taoyuan and Kaohsiung International Airport.

There are two to three versions of boarding passes circulating at different airports and this is the latest design adopted in Taiwan and Hong Kong as far as I know. It improved much comparing to the older version which is so dull with black and whites printed on the boarding pass. Very elegant with soft pink representing the color of plum blossom, the national flower of Taiwan. At the smaller portion, they will print which seating zone passengers are in for smooth boarding.

CA Air China 中國國際航空 Boarding Pass

Air China is a large-sized Asia airline and the flag carrier of People’s Republic of China. (Not to be confused with China Airlines in Taiwan) Though they carry president abroad, Air China came third in terms of passengers they carried. They joined the Star Alliance in 2007 and is the only airline alliance that flies people to the mysterious North Korea (Actually there are only two airliners that flies to KP!)

Most China airlines adopt the TravelSky check in system so layouts are identical among them at the same airport. However, boarding passes design and size vary significantly from airports to airports since China airports usually ‘forces’ airlines to use their own with the airport logo and name on it (for profits of course).
